‘Onward Journey’ in the making

Tikkun Olam Bulb

Making the bulb as part of ‘Tikkun Olam’ – Prayer Tableau IV. High fired stoneware and porcelain.

Working with two different clay bodies in the same piece is always a challenge! Using porcelain requires a good discipline in keeping it clean from any other clay or impurity, which will show up when fired. Also, the clays have different drying times, so are kept wrapped for longer to even out the moisture content. The stoneware clay I used for this tableau is a speckled stoneware, which when fired in an electric kiln in an oxidation firing, resembles a reduction fired appearance, with a pronounced speckle.
