Queen Elizabeth II – Farewell your Majesty. A nation united in grief. Walking through the night.

As we continue our walk along the Embankment, we approach Westminster Bridge. Opposite the Palace of Westminster, we are greeted by the poignant ‘Covid Memorial Wall’ .
Each heart drawn on this wall symbolizes a death from Covid. We cross Westminster Bridge. With the traffic cordoned off, it is so quiet. Even this close, a few hours of walking remain, as we enter the zig-zag section.

Queen Elizabeth II – Farewell your Majesty. A nation united in grief. The camaraderie of the walk

Having walked three miles to the ‘start of the queue’ – We have our ‘wristbands’!
Over the next few hours we walk and talk, all complete strangers, before we are united in our wish to each pay our personal respects to our late Queen. We share memories, some of meeting Her Majesty, and what she has meant to each one of us. We are so proud of this queue – we do them really well! Plenty of water stops along the way. Clergy from a range of churches wish us well as we pass by. We keep places in the queue for each other. Wristbands are checked frequently for security. The day light begins to fade.
